Picturesque Hydra (80 minutes south of Athens's port of Piraeus) is a special island, with NO CARS, no big hotels, no package tours and no camping. Strict planning controls have ensured that the town has retained its nineteenth-century charm - its backstreets are a maze of whitewashed alleys and narrow steps. Transport inland is by mule, and along the coast by small bus-boat or taxi speedboat.

The villa is a Victorian island house, not a modern concrete block, with 3 bedrooms (1 double, 1 single, 1 twin). It is not luxurious but is furnished simply in traditional Greek style. The house is L-shaped and north-facing and so the main terrace with its superb view of the bustling little harbour, is in cool shade much of the day. The sun terrace upstairs (with 4 loungers) has an even better view, but is very hot. Not suitable for the disabled.
